Technical communication research,
teaching, and practice with a focus on
rural community engagement
My research goals:
I seek to learn from local and traditional knowledges as they can be paired with scientific knowledge toward improved communication between rural and scientific stakeholders. My research should, above all, benefit my research participants and conclude with actionable information for technical communication scholars, teachers, and practitioners toward the improvement of their communities.
My teaching approach
In teaching Socratically, my goal is to empower students to become independent critical thinkers, and resourceful and ethical leaders in their chosen fields. I present projects and classroom activities that layer and apply communication skills in a low-stakes, scaffolded manner toward a final project that is useful to the individual student.
